More than a week ago, when I received mail from a ‘newborn local ad company’ about incoming ads on my blog, I was over the moon and I thought I could finally make some cash to fund my food trip.
So, after a week, when I checked my earnings on the report, to my HORROR, I EARNED ONLY A FREAKING RM0.50! This is pathetic. It’s not enough for a glass of chinese tea. The ad campaign was running for a week on 3 banners over two blogs of mine, and I only earned 50cent! wth? I was not informed in the email that it’s a CPC (per click) ad, I thought it was CPM.
When i first signed up with Nuffnang, i was attracted to their CPM model. it works better for bloggers. that was their VALUE PROPOSITION. I was kidnapped on a wild ride. not willingly. not knowingly, when we stood right behind them when advertlets were making monkey of themselves.
I thought, well, it’s a local ad, and I should support with full confidence and hope. Although I do not have much traffic on my blog, but it still sounds good since I thought it’s a CPM ad. Out of 3 units on 2 blogs for a week, I had only a click! Oh dear!
-_-.What more should I say.

Yes! that’s the worst way to do business! yes they did announce that they will be launching CPC model. But the email notification sent never mention anything regarding it. we signed up for CPM model and NEVER CPC! everyone knows how CPC works better with text ads. since when picture ads works? all bloggers know.
yah, now i can imagine some of you guys come here and say that this is a small blog and shouldn’t complain. but heck, can’t you all see that, as this blogger had said, she was taken on a wild ride, not willingly, not knowingly. it’s like being raped.
seriously, i think NN lost it this time. in their hunt in winning, via their very ‘gentlemen’ like nature, the race, they lost it this time.
perhaps they should pay more attention to details. not just assume the bloggers are indeed behind them and will swallow every single pill given. the bloggers have their own interest as well.

So you guys are angry because they didn’t mention which of their campaigns are CPC and which are CPM? Why what difference would it make unless you’re upset bcos if you knew earlier you would have clicked on your own ads which btw is click fraud. i already think they are overpaying by paying 50 cents per click…

woah there there. From my personal experience, I only got 1 CPC ad out of 7 other advertisements.
The reason why we didn’t notify you prior to adding the ad is because the advertisers feel that if bloggers are told beforehand, then there will be a lot of faulty clicks. Some bloggers may themselves or through their friends click their own ads which will end up driving advertising costs unjustifiably.
I’m a blogger myself so I totally share your sentiments on the CPC ads but after finding out the reason why they didn’t tell us in the email, I hope you understand our (and the advertisers’) situation.
By the way, 50 sen a click is helluva lot compared to adsense or other ads around.
But don’t worry, not all the campaigns will be CPC, albeit having more and more advertisers who demand for them since CPC ads are more beneficial to the advertisers themselves.
Anyway, thank you for supporting us thus far.

YA,that should write inside the email…..i olso think is CPM ad but is CPC……image ads is not working in CPC…….

What Suet Li said is true and fairer to the advertisers.
If you have the tendency to occasionally click on your own ads, like I do to check out the promotion/website, maybe you could have earned a little more.
Oh well, each one has their own stories to say and I am very sure Timothy will get back to you asap.

When you sign in with either Nuffnang or Advertlets, you will be served with either CPM or CPC ads (or both concurrently, if you have more than 1 ad). There is no mention that you can choose to be served with only CPM or CPC ads only (I could be wrong).
Anyway, a small tip to (hopefully) help improve your earnings. Currently your Nuffnang banner is displayed only in the front page of your blog (ie. http://sloppychic.com).
The banner doesn’t show up when your visitor clicks on a blog post (eg. http://sloppychic.com/?p=143).
If a visitor enters your blog through a link on PPS (eg. http://sloppychic.com/?p=143), they will not be able to see the banner. If the banner don’t show up, there is no possibility of a click, true?

I’m an outsider in this but I’ve been keeping a close watch on the local blog-advertising industry.
I think blog owners have the right to know if theirs is a CPC or CPM model. It’s misleading and unfair to ‘hide’ this from the bloggers’ knowledge.
To tackle click-fraud and all that are a different story altogether.
P/s: I actually agree that RM0.50 per click is quite a good deal.
Just my $0.02. Cheers.

[…] Since the launch of CPC ads by Nuffnang, I noticed difficulty in differentiating between a CPM and CPC ad myself. There is simply no indication on the banner ad itself or even in the email notification sent by Nuffnang. This was also felt by a slightly frustrated chic. […]

wah. good business here!

suet li, that’s being unfair to us bloggers if you’re saying we bloggers are going to be click fraudingthe campaign. if you all (that’s to both NN and Advertlets) are not comfortable with click fraud, then just don’t do it (CPC). Google has a good system in place to detect click fraud and that’s where u see people getting banned left and right for having invalid clicks. no argument there (since the ban is for life). even if you all are not able to handle such a thing, you all shouldn’t blind side the bloggers regarding whether the campaign is CPM or CPC. that’s just plain unprofessional.
as for people screaming 50 cents per click, i think this time round, the issues isn’t regarding the 50 cents. it’s regarding how we bloggers are not informed if it’s a CPC campaign. it’s like being led blindly into something we never signed up for. it almost sound like a scenario where a con-salesman who will come into your house, sell you A and later without u knowing, slipped in B, C, D, E and F.
i believe this is a lesson NN (and Advertlets) should learn from. Yes, there are die hard bloggers out there supporting you. but you ain’t Apple yet with horde of zealots worshipping your every steps.
